Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, sustained major injury on Thursday and has been admitted to the hospital, Trinamool Congress said on X.
The party in its post said, "Our chairperson @MamataOfficial sustained a major injury. Please keep her in your prayers."
"Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was brought to the hospital, she received a sharp cut. She received four stitches-three on her forehead and one on her nose. She was advised to stay in the hospital but she wanted to go home," a medical bulletin read.
Despite stable condition, doctors advised her to stay overnight, but she was eager to return home. PM Modi and TN CM Stalin expressed concern and wished her a speedy recovery.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, meanwhile, issued a message on X wishing the Chief Minister a speedy recovery.
“I pray for a quick recovery and the best health for Mamata Didi,” the message read.
Tamil Nadu chief minister MK Stalin also expressed shock over the incident and wished her a speedy recovery.
"Shocked and deeply concerned about the road accident involving Hon'ble chief minister of West Bengal @MamataOfficial didi. My thoughts are with her during this difficult time, and I'm wishing her a speedy recovery," Stalin said in a post on X.
Banerjee, 69, was admitted in Woodburn ward of the state-run SSKM Hospital.
TMC national general secretary and Mamata's nephew Abhishek Banerjee got her admitted to the hospital, according to ET's sources.
“The bleeding has stopped. She might undergo further tests. A five-six member medical board has been formed for her treatment," the sources further said.
Sukanta Majumdar, State BJP president, wished her a speedy recovery. "Our prayers are with her for a quick return to good health," he posted on X.
