NEW DELHI: West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee on Monday began a four-day tour of tribal districts in Bankura, an area visited by Union home minister Amit Shah earlier this month.

Banerjee will be attending administrative meetings and addressing public rallies till November 25, Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders said. The CM is also expected to attend a video meeting with the Prime Ministeron Covid-19 from here.

All 13 assembly segments in Bankura are part of Lok Sabha seats, such as Bankura, Bishnupur and Bardhaman Durgapur, that were won by the BJP in 2019 when it won 18 of the 42 seats in the state.

TMC MP Sukhendu Sekhar Roy said the CM since 2011has made it a regular practice to hold administrative review meetings in every part of the state, and her visit to Bankura was reflective of her commitment to the tradition.

Sampa Daripa, the legislator from Bankura, told ET, "From roads to rations, Mamata Banerjee is doing everything for the community here. They are happy and they are turning out in large numbers to thank her as we saw today. There is no doubt we will win the polls." A TMC functionary said, according to the party's strategy, all legislators in the state have been asked to visit their constituencies and interact with people about their problems and solve them within the next few months. “Even bureaucrats have been asked to help the MLAs in getting the work done,” a TMC worker said.

On Monday, BJP MPs protested after being kept away from the official meetings in Bankura. Saumitra Khan, Bishnupur MP, told ET this is the area the BJP made significant gains in 2019 and the people continue to trust the party.
