The meeting at Raj Bhawan was scheduled at 5.30pm today evening and chief minister Mamata Banerjee said it was a courtesy call.
"Whenever the Prime Minister or President comes to the state, it is protocol to meet him or her. This was a courtesy and protocol meeting since elections have not been declared yet. I have spoken about Bengal. The Model Code of Conduct is not put in place yet. I chatted (golpo korlam) with him. This was not a political meeting. Whatever we have to say, we will from public meetings," Banerjee said after the meeting.
"I will not make any political comments today. Whatever comments will be made by the party," Banerjee said and added she has given sweets to the Prime Minister, when asked about political jibes by the Prime Minister at Arambagh.
The PM will stay at Raj Bhawan on Friday night and will hold another public meeting tomorrow in Nadia district's Krishnanagar. After his stopover at the Raj Bhawan for the night, on Saturday, PM will take a chopper to Krishnagar, where he will address another public meeting preceded by inauguration of projects.
