Sources in West Bengal government claim that chief minister’s decision to reach Sandakfu by foot will encourage tourists in Darjeeling and adjoining places.

KOLKATA: Mamata Banerjee will be the first Chief Minister of the State to trek to Sandakphu, the highest peak of the State, at over 12,000 feet. It is learnt from her party sources that the chief minister will take up Sandakfu trek in October when she will be visiting Darjeeling. The journey to Sandakfu is a 26 kilometre trek which starts at Maneybhanjan.

Chief minister recently visited Darjeeling for three days from September 1. During her visit, she has expressed desire to trek to Sandakphu. After attending a programme of the Lepcha Development Board at Kalimpong, the chief minister trekked to Deolo hills, which was about 6 km away from the spot. The trek took around one and half hours.

Sources in Trinamool Congress and West Bengal government claim that chief minister’s decision to reach Sandakfu by foot will encourage tourists in Darjeeling and it’s adjoining places. It is known to everybody in the state that the chief minister is very hard-working and is capable of undertaking any strenuous journey. Very recently, she had gone to Malda by road just to experience road conditions in the state.
