West Bengal: CBI files 2 charge sheets in March 21 Birbhum violence
Nine people, including women and children, were burnt to death on the night of March 21 when their houses in Bogtui village were fire-bombed by a mob in retaliation to the killing of TMC leader Sheikh in a crude bomb attack that evening.

The CBI filed charge sheet against four accused in connection with Trinamool leader Bhadu Sheikh's murder on March 21, which triggered to Bogtui violence in Rampurhat. In the chargesheet in murder of Bhadu Sheikh, the agency has named four accused in the case include, Palash Khan alias Faizul Khan, Sanju Sheikh alias Nur Islam Sekh, Safi Sekh alias Safizul Seikh and Mahi Sekh alias Mahirul Sekh.
The central agency filed another charge sheet against 16 accused, including Anarul Hussain, before the court in connection with Rampurhat violence incident, where ten people died in Bogtui village. In addition, the CBI also submitted a report against two children in Conflct of Law (CCL) in the court of Principal Magistrate, Juvenile Justice Board in Birbhum’s Suri, in connection with the case. The houses of the victims were set on fire at Bogtui village .
The CBI has arrested six accused during investigation, including four of them getting arrested from Mumbai by the agency. While the state Police arrested 21 suspected accused persons.
The total death toll in the Bogtui incident was 10 in Rampurhat violence. All eight members of a family were charred to death on March 21 night while later two others died in hospital.
The Central Bureau of Investigation has filed a chargesheet against four accused in the Court today in a case related to murder of Trinamool Deputy Panchayat head Bhadu Sheikh, a resident of village Bogtui in Birbhum, who was allegedly murdered by some miscreants. His murder triggered violence in Rampurhat’s Bogtui village, where ten persons died.
The CBI had registered a case on April 8, 2022 following the orders of Calcutta High Court in connection with the case, after taking over the investigation of the case, earlier registered in the last week of March at Rampurhat Police Station by Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed by West Bengal government, against 10 accused.
On March 21, Bhadu Sheikh, Deputy Pradhan of Barsal Gram Panchayat, was allegedly murdered while he was having tea at a shop in Bogtui more at around 8.30 P.M, according to a complaint lodged by Bhadu Sheikh’s brother, CBI sources said.
“The CBI collected digital as well as other scientific evidence. It was found during investigation that there was long standing rivalry between two groups in the area. One group was led by the deceased Bhadu Sheikh and another was led by the accused named in the FIR. Bhadu Sheikh was killed due to the rivalry,” sources told ET.
