Kolkata: The West Bengal Assembly will commence on June 18, and the full budget will be presented by the new finance minister of the newly formed Bengal government on June 22, the new Speaker of the House, Rathindra Bose, announced at a special session of the House on Friday.

The budget session of the House will commence on June 18, the Speaker said at the end of the session.

The full budget is scheduled to be presented on June 22, and the new cabinet led by the ninth West Bengal Chief Minister, Suvendu Adhikari, will announce the name of the new finance minister by then.

Former West Bengal Minister of State for Finance (Independent Charge), Chandrima Bhattacharya, had presented the interim (vote on account) budget on the floor of the state Assembly on February 5, 2026.

The full budget could not be presented in view of the Assembly elections in West Bengal, as Bengal was a poll-bound state.

Meanwhile, instructions have been received from the Chief Minister’s Office to all the departmental secretaries to start preparations for the state budget. Assembly elections in the state were conducted in April in two phases, and the results were announced on May 4.
