Bihar deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav said the state government is moving towards fulfilling its promise of providing 10 lakh jobs in the state. During his election campaign in 2020, Yadav had promised to provide 10 lakh government jobs if his party came to power.

"We became part of the government after two and a half years. Still, the resolve of our chief minister Nitish Kumar is to provide 10 lakh government jobs as well as create 10 lakh employment opportunities apart from that," Tejashwi Yadav told ET in an exclusive interaction. "We have provided appointment letters to 80,000 new recruits for government jobs. We have come up with 75,000 vacancies in the police department as well as 10,000 additional vacancies. Yadav said around five lakh jobs have been planned and the next five lakh jobs will be planned after this.

Talking about the caste-based survey, Yadav said right now the fight is both legal as well as political. "The decision to have a caste-based survey was taken after all parties in Bihar agreed to it. Now the matter is in court and the government is presenting its case. However, the political battle will resume to create a consensus among the masses about caste census across the country," he said.

On Opposition unity, Yadav said: "The Karnataka result has definitely given a boost. However, more work needs to be done... Opposition parties should sit together and chart out a common agenda in terms of what we are going to offer..."
