KOLKATA: Fish from Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand will all be served on Bengali platter this April. Thanks to retail chain major Spencer that is organising a week-long fish festival especially for the Bengali new year.

' Rajakiya Machher Festival’ that took off today is stocking the largest variety of Rohu from Madhya Pradesh. The big Rohu and Katla specifically have been sourced from the big reservoirs of Madhya Pradesh. Apart from Rohu and Katla, Hilsa, Bhetki, Chingri, Parshe, Pabda, Tilapia, Pomfrets, Ayre, Bhola and many more varieties will be available at all the nine Spencer stores in Kolkata.

“Spencer’s has recently collaborated with the Bengal State Fisheries Development Corporation to get supplies of some special fish products for instance Indian basa fillets, tilapia, as also vannamie prawns,” said Dharm Chaturvedi, head of Spencer’s Fish and Meat Business.

Special arrangements have been made to offer large-sized hilsa (weighting 1-1.5 kg) from Myanmar to fish lovers in the city.
