NEW DELHI: The Election Commission (EC) today said it is taking a decision on reports that Rahul Gandhi, a candidate from Amethi, had violated rules by going to the polling area inside some booths in theconstituency during balloting on May 7 and "not trying to avoid" it.

"We are not trying to avoid...the information is coming from 4-5 places. I can tell you honestly that we will take a decision...We have sought for information on this. It either must have come or may be on the way," Election Commissioner H S Brahma said while interacting with journalists here.

During a similar interaction here yesterday, Chief Election Commissioner V S Sampath had said that "it is a matter of fact (that Rahul was) seeing the EVM in a polling station." Sampath had further said this particular instance will be examined vis-a-vis the law (Representation of the People Act). The Congress Vice President was yesterday seen entering polling area inside some booths in Amethi constituency.
