BENGALURU: A day after ET carried a photograph of the newly-designed St Mark's Road dug up to fix a leaking water pipe, Anjum Parwez, chairperson of the city's water supply utility, stepped in on Tuesday to sort out the mess created by his employees.

The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) received flak when its men dug up a portion of the road, which had just received a face lift under the Tender Specifications for Urban Road Execution ( TenderSure) project.

“I have told my people that BWSSB will bear the cost of shifting water connections from the old pipes to the new ones.I don't want to enter a blame game,“Parwez told ET.

“The new pipelines put under TenderSure are 300mm in diameter. The existing ones are 100mm.There are 58 houses on this road whose connections are to be shifted to the new lines.Unfortunately, before the completion of the shifting,a leak happened on the 100mm pipeline. In the next 3-4 days, all connections will be shifted to the new pipeline,“ he said.

“My gut feeling is the road should not have been tarred until all connections were shifted to the new line. But these are the initial hiccups that happen sometimes and it should not be seen as non-coordination between agencies. BWSSB wants to give its best for the TenderSure,“ Parwez said.
