The Congress has “wholeheartedly” welcomed the Supreme Court’s critique of the Centre’s vaccine policy and reminded the Modi regime how the main opposition party had made many constructive suggestions to improve the vaccine policy only to be snubbed and rejected by the regime and the ruling party.

Congress spokesman Abhishek Singhvi listed the number of suggestions the party leadership, former PM Manmohan Singh and the Gandhis had placed before the Centre to improve the vaccination policy. He lamented the Centre and BJP responded with indifference and rejection each time. “There was insult, scorn, taunt, contempt and sarcasm from you (ruling side) but, not for one minute did you think that had you not had these responses India would have benefited,” he said.

Meanwhile, senior Congress leader P Chidambaram tweeted: “Our suspicion that the govt had not approved any vaccine other than Covishield, Covaxin and Sputnik V has been proved correct. Why did the government go through the charade of negotiating quantities with Pfizer & Moderna without first giving Emergency Use Approval to their vaccines?” He added: “Why has it taken 8-9 months for the government to decide to give approval when the US and other countries had granted approval? Remember, Dr Manmohan Singh had made this specific suggestion in his letter which got a rude reply from the Union Health Minister!”
