We didn't cross the border, peace to prevail: China

NEW DELHI/ BEIJING: China has reiterated that its troops have not crossed the Line of Actual Control in Ladakh, but emphasised that the incident will not disrupt peace or bilateral ties as efforts were on to resolve the issue.

Troops of India and China continue to be in a 'face-to-face' situation in the Depsang Valley in eastern Ladakh, where the People's Liberation Army have intruded deep into the Indian side of the LAC.

Army chief General Bikram Singh briefed defence minister AK Antony here after returning from Jammu. He also briefed the China Study Group headed by the National Security Advisor. External affairs minister Salman Khurshid said he would visit China on May 9. He told ET on Wednesday that India was confident of a resolution through dialogue. Chinese premiere Li Keqiang is also scheduled to visit India in May.

"I do not agree with your allegation that it is the Chinese side that has caused the provocation between the border troops," Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said while replying to questions about the intrusion of Chinese troops at the Depsang Valley in Ladakh.

She acknowledged that the two countries are holding talks through existing mechanisms.
