WB to go ahead with land acquisition for Tata project
Condoning political opposition, including protests by Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee, West Bengal government on Saturday said it would go ahead with acquisition of land at Singur for Tata Motors' Rs one lakh car project.

NEW DELHI: Condoning political opposition, including protests by Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee, West Bengal government on Saturday said it would go ahead with acquisition of land at Singur for Tata Motors' Rs one lakh car project.
"Let them oppose, we will go forward," Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee said on the sidelines of the National Development Council meeting here.
Asked about opposition from Banerjee and social activist Medha Patkar, he said the government would not stop acquiring land for the project.
Banerjee had gone on a hunger strike against acquisition of farm lands for the people's car project of Tata Motors and for lifting of prohibitory orders in Singur and nearby areas.
The government had, in the past, said that if the Tata's project is not allowed to come up, no other industrial project would be taken up in Singur.
