WB govt will join tripartite meet if called by Centre: Basu

Marxist veteran Jyoti Basu said on Friday that the West Bengal government will take part in a tripartite meeting if held at the instance of the Centre to resolve the Darjeeling crisis.

KOLKATA: Marxist veteran Jyoti Basu said on Friday that the West Bengal government will take part in a tripartite meeting if held at the instance of the Centre to resolve the Darjeeling crisis.

''If the Centre calls a tripartite meeting, the state government will join it,'' Basu told reporters.

Regretting that the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha had spurned the talks offer of Chief Minister Buddhadev Bhattacharjee, Basu asked: ''What can be done if the GJM is not willing to talk?''

Basu's comments came in the wake of the GJM's willingness to join a tripartite meeting in which the chief minister may be present.
