WB govt warns against violation of prohibitory orders
Warning against a violation of prohibitory orders at Singur a day ahead of a proposed march there by the Jamiat-e-Ulema-e-Hind, the West Bengal government on Tuesday said it would take "appropriate action" against any such move.
"Violation of the prohibitory orders under section 144 of CrPC will invite appropriate administrative action," Home Secretary P R Roy told reporters here.
The administration does not apprehend there will be trouble either tomorrow or on February 10 when Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee will march to Singur, he said.
Simmering tension prevailed at Singur, the site for the Tata Motors' small car plant, a day after the administration reimposed prohibitory orders, fearing breach of peace as Banerjee had been scheduled to go there yesterday. She, however, cancelled her visit.
Tension also prevailed at Kamarkundu where Trinamool Congress activists fought a pitched battle with police when they were prevented from marching to Singur yesterday.
The Rapid Action Force and combat force personnel have been deployed at Singur as a precautionary measure.
The Hooghly district administration has increased the number of private security guards around the fenced area of the Tata Motors' project.
