WB govt cuts chicken, eggs supply to Kolkata, Salt Lake

The West Bengal government has snapped the supply chain of chicken and eggs to Kolkata and Salt Lake from the 13 bird flu affected districts, a senior official of the state animal husbandry department said on Monday.

KOLKATA: The West Bengal government has snapped the supply chain of chicken and eggs to Kolkata and Salt Lake from the 13 bird flu affected districts, a senior official of the state animal husbandry department said on Monday.

“We will also try to restrict the selling of chicken in Salt Lake and Kolkata from Tuesday,” the official said. Thirteen of the 19 districts in West Bengal were declared as bird flu-affected zones.

West Bengal minister for animal husbandry, Anisur Rahman said about 15.75 lakh chickens had been culled in the affected districts and 1.25 lakh had died on their own.

He claimed that culling operations were over in the districts of Hooghly, Burdwan, Bankura, South Dinajpur and Nadia and such operations were still on in the districts of West Midnapore, Birbhum, South 24-Parganas, Murshidabad, Malda, Cooch Behar, Purulia and Howrah.
