GURGAON: At a time when the Haryana government is planning a slew of measures to tackle smog and high pollution levels in NCR cities, waste burning continues unabated. This is happening despite the state government imposing Section 144 CrPC across Gurgaon to prohibit garbage or waste burning that aggravates smog formation.

A TOI photographer on Tuesday caught on camera a huge heap of dry leaves and other waste being burnt near Bandhwari on the Gurgaon-Faridabad Road. Even though the government has taken tough measures, the incident proves that it has not taken any step to implement them at the ground level.

The state government is all set to prepare an action plan with the help of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) in the coming days to fight the smog menace in Gurgaon and Faridabad. Gurgaon divisional commissioner D Suresh will hold a special meeting with MoEFCC officials on Wednesday to work on the plan.

The state is also seeking the Ministry of Science and Technology's help to find out the real cause of smog and ways to prevent it in a scientific manner. "We will discuss scientific studies on pollution conducted by MoEFCC and its impacts, and prepare a action plan," Suresh said.

The action plan will first be prepared for Gurgaon, then Faridabad. It will then be implemented in other parts of the state.
