Amrinder Singh Raja Warring resigns as Punjab Congress chief as directed by the party high command.
While the AICC had not made any announcement till the time of writing, Warring's exit marked the central leadership giving in to the demand for his removal by many state Congress leaders, including former chief minister CS Channi and senior leader SS Randhawa. This was despite top Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, earlier standing firm with Warring against the rebellion.
Among those in the run to be the new PCC president is AICC joint treasurer Vijay Inder Singhla and Channi.

The brewing rebellion not only forced the exit of Warring, a Rahul Gandhi loyalist, but had also earlier forced the exit of then pro-Warring AICC general secretary Bhupesh Baghel, who is known to be close to Priyanka Vadra. It meant the Congress high command trying to buy peace with many state Congress leaders.
Warring's quarrel with Channi and his alleged use of derogatory words against former home minister late Buta Singh added an anti-Dalit charge to his image crisis.
