Warrant against Amit Jogi in murder case

High Court issued warrant against Amit Jogi in connection with the murder of an NCP leader five-and-half years ago.

NEW DELHI: The New Year has got off to an ominous start for senior Congress leader and former Chhattisgarh chief minister Ajit Jogi. In a development that spells more trouble for the Jogi family, the state High Court on Thursday issued a warrant against his son Amit in connection with the murder of an NCP leader five-and-half years ago.

A two-member division bench of the Chhattisgarh High Court issued the bailable warrant on Thursday against the 33-year-old Amit Jogi, currently practising as a lawyer in the same court, in response to a review petition filed by Satish, son of the murdered NCP treasurer Ramavatar Jaggi.

Flush with the legal development, a visibly elated Satish said on Friday that he’d do his best `` to ensure that Amit does not walk away this time without being punished by the court.’’ `` The lower court acquittal was very disappointing. I will strive for justice,’’ he said in Raipur on Friday.

Ramavatar Jaggi, then NCP Chhattisgarh state unit treasurer, was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in the heart of state capital Raipur on June 4, 2003 when Ajit Jogi was the chief minister.
