Vohra asks Centre to increase J&K's Haj quota

Jammu & Kashmir Governor N N Vohra has asked the Centre to increase the state's Haj quota by 3,000 seats.

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra has asked the Centre to increase the state's Haj quota by 3,000 seats.

"Vohra has urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to enhance the Haj quota by 3,000 seats to accommodate maximum aspirants from the state," an official spokesman said on wednesday.

A total of 6,228 pilgrims were selected from 16,000 aspirants through a draw of lots held at Haj House here on July 10.

The Centre had earlier slashed the Haj quota of Jammu and Kashmir from over 10,000 to about 6,000 pilgrims a year.
