Vohra asks Centre to increase J-K's Hajj quota

Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra has asked the Centre to increase the state's Hajj quota by an additional 3000 seats.

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra has asked the Centre to increase the state's Hajj quota by an additional 3000 seats.

"Vohra has urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to enhance the Hajj quota by 3000 seats to accommodate maximum Hajj aspirants from the state," an official spokesman said here on Wednesday.

A total of 6228 pilgrims out of 16,000 aspirants were selected through draw of lots held at Hajj house here on July 10 this year.

Earlier, the Centre slashed the Hajj quota of the state from over 10,000 to around 6000 pilgrims a year.
