'Vishwas' cards issued to gain confidence of voters

MUZZAFARNAGAR: The district authorities have issued Vishvas (confidence) cards to thousands of voters in the riot hit area assuring them full security to enable them to cast their vote freely.

The cards contain mobile numbers of the district authorities in case a card holder encounters any pressure or influence during voting, district officials said, adding, authorities can be informed on the mentioned mobile numbers.

"Security would be provided immediately to the complainant", SSP H N Singh told PTI.The authorities have also issued warning cards for those suspected of creating trouble during the elections.

Describing the move as a precautionary measure, the SSP said those with warning cards would be held responsible for disruptions and incidents of violence during elections.Meanwhile, tight security arrangements would be put in place for the first phase of the polls in the state.He also said that Punjab police and paramilitary force will be deployed in the district.
