Vishram Patil case: CBI says probe to be over within a month

The CBI on Thursday told the Bombay High Court that probe in Vishram Patil murder case, in which President Pratibha Patil's brother is sought to be made an accused, will be over in four weeks.

MUMBAI: The CBI on Thursday told the Bombay High Court that probe in Vishram Patil murder case, in which President Pratibha Patil's brother is sought to be made an accused, will be over in four weeks.

Vishram's widow Rajni has moved the High Court seeking that President Patil's brother, G N Patil, be made an accused in the case, alleging that he conspired to kill Vishram out of political rivalry within Jalgaon unit of the Congress.

Additional Solicitor General Gopal Subramaniam told the division bench of Chief Justice Swatanter Kumar and Justice J P Deodhar that investigation was nearing completion, and the investigating agency may file supplementary chargesheet in four weeks.

Two suspects in the case, Leeladhar Narkhede and Damodar Lokhande whom CBI has questioned, had moved the High Court seeking transfer of the case to Aurangabad bench of the High Court, but they withdrew the petition later.

Vishram Patil, president of Jalgaon district Congress Committee, was murdered on September 21, 2005. Rajni's petition, which came just before the President's election, had even sought that Pratibha Patil should be questioned, but later her lawyer dropped this demand.

Rajni has alleged that G N Patil held grudge against her husband, because he had tried to expose misuse of funds of district Congress unit by the President's brother and his associates.
