Violence continues in Nandigram

Fresh incidents of bombing and firing incidents were reported on Sunday, a day ahead of the swearing-in of the Sabhadhipati of Zilla Parishad, East Midnapore district.

NANDIGRAM: Fresh incidents of bombing and firing incidents were reported from Gar Chakraberia and Jadubarichak localities of Nandigram on Sunday, a day ahead of the swearing-in of the Sabhadhipati of Zilla Parishad, East Midnapore district.
Police said there were reports of some shots fired and bombs hurled in the area which remained tense after the Trinamool win in the rural polls recently. There was, however, no report of any casualty or injury.
The identity of those behind the incidents were not known, police said. A police force was deployed in the area as tension escalated.
Trinamool Congress MLA Sisir Adhikary alleged that CPI (M) was trying to unleash terror in the localities of Nandigram before the swearing-in of the Sabhadhipati as "the Marxists were wary of losing grip in the area".
Refuting his allegations, CPI (M) leader Ashok Guriya said Trinamool Congress activists were trying to drive away all Left activists from Nandigram to establish its "political hegemony".
He alleged the Trinamool had been resorting to bomb attacks and firing on CPI (M) supporters at Gar Chakraberia, Jadubarichak, Takapura, Sonachura and Kalicharanpur for the past few days.
