BALLARI: The State government has decided to utilise the services of village accountants to address the severe shortage of land surveyors in the revenue department, according to Ballari Deputy Commissioner Sameer Shukla.

Eligible village accountants, who would be selected through tests, will be given additional responsibilities of surveyors after giving them proper training, Shukla told.

The government's order makes it clear that the selected village accountants need to carry out all the works entrusted to them through written orders issued by land survey department commissioner.

The government is taking the step to clear the backlog pertaining to works including 'pahani' with as many as 1,750 village accountants already selected for undergoing three month training at Mysuru Kalaburagi Tumakuru and Belagvi revenue divisions.

As per the parameters for selecting the village accountants for undergoing training, they should be below 50 years with a minimum education qualification of PUC or equivalent qualification, he said.

He said a list of 80 Village Accountants had been forwarded as per the government order of which 35 had been selected in Ballari District.
