In a dramatic turn during a press conference about the ongoing violence in Manipur, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi abruptly left after clashing with journalists' questions.

Rahul Gandhi had called the conference to address the situation in Manipur, but became visibly agitated when faced with what he perceived as distracting questions.

"Please respect what I am saying. I have come here to give a clear message, I am not interested in answering questions that are designed to divert the issue. I have made my statement," he said before walking out.

During his address, Gandhi highlighted the natural beauty of Manipur, a state that has been suffering from continuous riots since May 2023. He requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit Manipur to give solace to the ethnic violence-affected people of the state. Gandhi also said that the Congress will do everything it can to bring peace to Manipur.

"Manipur is one of the most beautiful states of the Indian Union," Gandhi remarked, emphasising the need for national attention during this crisis.

The tragedy of Manipur is "tremendous", the Raebareli MP told the press conference.

"The Prime Minister should visit the state and listen to the woes of the people as it would give comfort to them," Gandhi said.

He said that he came to the state to listen to the woes of the violence-hit people and build confidence in them.

"We will do everything we can to bring peace to Manipur... As somebody in the opposition, I have been trying to pressure the government," he said.

Gandhi visited several relief camps where people displaced by the ethnic violence in the northeastern state are staying. The strife has claimed over 200 lives since May last year.
