Veteran Marathi writer MD Hatkananglekar passes away

Renowned Marathi literary critic, writer and translator M D Hatkananglekar died due to old-age related illness at a hospital here this morning.

SANGLI(MAHARASHTRA): Renowned Marathi literary critic, writer and translator M D Hatkananglekar died due to old-age related illness at a hospital here this morning.

He was 89. Hatkanaglekar who had earlier been the president of Akhil Bhartiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan was admitted to a private hospital in Sangli about a fortnight back due to old-age related health problems. He breathed his last at around 10.20 AM today, family sources said.

He is survived by wife, two daughters and a son. Hatkananglekar was born in 1927 at Hatkanangale, a town and tehsil headquarters in Ichalkaranji subdivision of Maharashtra's Kolhapur district.

He became Professor of Marathi in Willindon College, Sangli in 1956 and its Principal in 1973. He retired as principal in 1978.

He has written several books in Marathi and also translated many Marathi short stories in English. He was associated with a number of literary institutions in Maharashtra.
