Veteran freedom fighter Thakur Shayam Singh passes away
MUZAFFARNAGAR: Veteran freedom fighter Thakur Shayam Singh passed away at his native village Dukhi here this morning after a protracted illness.

He was 102. Singh had taken an active part in the non-cooperation movement in 1941 and had been to jail.

His mortal remains were consigned to flames at Dukhi village with full state honours in the presence of officials and eminent citizens.

Singh is survived by a son Rampal Singh, five grandsons and a granddaughter.
