Veteran CPI leader and former MLA Biswanath Sahu passed away at his residence in Badakusasthali in Ganjam district due to old age related ailments.

BERHAMPUR: Veteran CPI leader and former MLA Biswanath Sahu passed away at his residence in Badakusasthali in Ganjam district due to old age related ailments.

He was 91 and died last night, family sources said.

Sahu was elected twice as MLA in 1977 and 1981 from Chhatrapur Assembly constituency as CPI candidate. He held the post of the state president of Kishan Sabha, the farmers' wing of the party. He was also associated with different organisations in the state.

Sahu had been in the communist party since 1946 and continued in it till his death.

Several communist leaders, including CPI General Secretary Sudhakar Reddy, condoled the death of the veteran leader.
