GUWAHATI: In a major blow to congress ahead of next year’s assembly polls in Manipur, Yumkham Irabot Singh deserted the ruling Congress party and joined BJP with his constituency supporters.

Miffed with the style of functioning of chief minister, Chief Minister, Okram Ibobi singh, Irabot sent a letter to the party high command informing about his decision to quit the party.

On Monday amidst rousing welcome in BJP office, Irabot joined the Saffron party. Prahlad Singh Patel, BJP’s in charge for Manipur told ET, “Irabot has officially joined the party. BJP is growing in the state.”
