Venugopal to stay: AIIMS doctors hails Delhi HC order

Striking AIIMS doctors on Friday hailed the Delhi High Court's order staying the removal of hospital's Director P Venugopal and indicated that they would call off their stir in view of the development.

NEW DELHI: Striking AIIMS doctors on Friday hailed the Delhi High Court's order staying the removal of hospital's Director P Venugopal and indicated that they would call off their stir in view of the development.
Describing the order as "victory of truth", Resident Doctors Association (RDA) Members Anil Sharma said "we are happy that the court has stayed the proposed sacking of Venugopal. Now we look forward to his reinstatement".
He said "the final decision (to call-off the strike) will be taken at the General Body Meeting shortly."
However, he said it was "very unfortunate that for everything we need to move court."
The faculty and RDA members are on strike for last two days after the apex decision making body of AIIMS, headed by Union Health Minister A Ramadoss, on July 5 recommended sacking of Venugopal for alegedly violating the institutes' code of conduct.
Meanwhile, a General Body Meeting of the striking RDA members are taking decision on the future course of action in view of the court's direction.
After receiving the news from the court, a group of doctors went to see the well-known cardiologist and his supporters were seen hugging each other at the official residence of the AIIMS Director.
