Venkaiah Naidu calls up Sonia Gandhi on her birthday

NEW DELHI: Amidst a war of words between the Congress and BJP in Parliament, senior Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu today called up Congress President Sonia Gandhi to wish on her birthday.

"I have called up Sonia ji in the morning and wished her on her birthday," Naidu told Lok Sabha after Speaker Sumitra Mahajan reminded him that today is Gandhi's birthday.

The Speaker's reminder came when Naidu wished BJP member from Maharashtra Poonam Mahajan on her birthday while replying a question raised by her, amidst continuous sloganeering by the Congress MPs alleging politics of vendetta.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was present in the House at that time. Modi has also greeted Gandhi on her 69th birthday, wishing her a long life and good health.
