Vengsarkar threatens to quit as chief selector
Chairman of selectors Dilip Vengsarkar has conveyed to the BCCI his desire to step down from his post expressing displeasure over the way the board has been handling selectors.
A private TV channel reported that Vengsarkar is not keen to continue under the present system adding that the board, however, remains confident of resolving the dispute with him.
Vengsarkar had a meeting with BCCI president Sharad Pawar on Saturday evening after which he left Kolkata, where Team India is playing the second Test against Pakistan.
The latest tiff between Vengsarkar and the board is over the date of team selection.
The selectors claim that the board had originally decided to hold the meeting on December 4 in Kolkata to choose the teams for the third Test against Pakistan and the first leg of the Australia tour.
Picking the Test captain for the tough tour Down Under was also on the agenda. But the board then changed the meeting date to December 5 and the venue to Bangalore. The selectors are unhappy that the changes have been effected without their consent.
It must be mentioned that after being at loggerheads over the seven-point gag order issued by the board against the selectors.
