Vasundhare Raje asks Centre on need to continue MNREGA as an Act
NEW DELHI: Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhare Raje has asked the Centre why the rural job scheme MNREGA cannot be delivered as a scheme and not by an Act, Government today said.

"Yes...The Chief Minister vide letter dated June 7, 2014 has raised certain issues regarding the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, one of which is questioning the need to continue it as an Act, rather than converting into a scheme," the Government informed the Rajya Sabha.

In a written reply, Minister of State for Rural Development Upendra Kuswaha also said the issue has been examined and the Chief Minister has been intimated through letter dated June 26, 2014 that "Government is committed for an effective implementation of the provisions of the Act and towards that end, would deliberate on all issues raised by therein".
