Vasundhara Raje to face Gujjar ire during Gaurav Yatra

JAIPUR: Rajasthan chief minister Vasundhara Raje, who launched a 40-day pre-poll yatra from the Charbhujanath temple where Gujjars are the priests, is likely to face protest from the community when the tour enters their fiefdom of Sawai Madhopur and Karauli during August 16-19.

Gujjars, who have been agitating for the past 11 years seeking a 5% quota in government jobs, are enraged with the state government for not fulfilling their demands.

A Jaipur district court’s decision to dismiss the state government’s plea to withdraw criminal cases against Gujjar protesters has added to the anger of the community members. The Gujjar agitation has claimed at least 72 lives and caused loss of public property worth thousands of crores in the past 11 years.


The Rajasthan Gujjar Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti led by Kiror Singh Bainsla has decided to protest against Raje’s Gaurav Yatra. Gujjars comprise around 6% of the total population with influence on at least 15 assembly seats.
