Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje made headlines this week during her visit to Jhalawar, her family stronghold. Raje expressed strong dissatisfaction with the implementation of the Prime Minister's flagship Jal Jeevan Mission in the region, taking officials to task over the lack of progress.

Taking to social media platform X, Raje posted two sharp messages accusing officers of negligence in executing the scheme. She highlighted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi allocated 42,000 crore for the mission, and questioned the officials about Jhalawar's share in it. She further warned that if there's already a crisis in April, the situation could become dire in the peak summer months of June and July.

"Doesn't the public feel thirsty? Only officers feel thirsty. The public is troubled due to the drinking water crisis in summer, while the officers remain satisfied. Water should reach the lips of the people, not just on paper. The officers are sleeping, the people are crying. I won't let this happen," Raje wrote.

Her remarks triggered a swift response from the Centre. On Wednesday, Union Jal Shakti Minister CR Paatil acknowledged Raje's concern and announced that his ministry had sought an immediate factual report from the Rajasthan government.

The matter also drew the attention of Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, who convened a meeting with Public Health Engineering Department officials on Thursday. He instructed them to step up efforts to ensure water supply before the summer peaks and warned that any negligence would be strictly dealt with.
