V Narayanasamy questions CM N Rangasamy's claim on fiscal position
PUDUCHERRY: Senior Congress leader V Narayanasamy today questioned Chief Minister N Rangasamy's statement that the fiscal position of the union territory government was 'sound and in fine mettle'.

Referring to Rangasamy's remarks at a meeting that the financial position was fine and the opposition was carrying out a 'baseless campaign' on the issue, he told reporters here that if it was true why should the government raise loans.

"If the financial position is stable and sound where is the need for the government to go in for raising loans from open market borrowing.

"During the last one month as much as Rs 200 crores had been sought to be raised through open market borrowing," he claimed and added that the Chief Minister was raising debt burden because of 'poor planning'.

PCC President A Namassivayam, who was also present, accused the AINRC government of ignoring the plight of workers, students and unemployed youth.

He said Congress was gearing up the cadres at all levels to ensure that the Congress rule was restored in 2016 Assembly polls here.

Meanwhile, party sources said Namassivayam would call on Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Vice-President Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi on Tuesday.

He would convey his gratitude to the party top brass for appointing him to pilot the party in the union territory ahead of the election.

Namassivayam, a close relative of Chief Minister N Rangasamy, would extend a formal invitation to Gandhi and her son to visit Puducherry to address party rallies, the sources said.
