Uttarakhand to continue under President's Rule for now

Uttarakhand to continue under President's Rule for now
NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Wednesday refused to vacate its interim order that allowed for continuation of the president’s rule in Uttarakhand.

This came after Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi opposed any floor test for the time being, saying it will defeat the appeal of the central government against the high court order.

The high court had quashed the president's rule in the state and reinstated the Harish Rawat-led Congress government while asking it to prove its majority in the house on April 29.

This order was challenged by the central government in the Supreme Court, which had then stayed the high court order on the ground that a copy of the judgement was not available and could not be given effect to.
