DEHRADUN: Uttarakhand Governor Aziz Qureshi today asked SPICMACAY to serve as a platform for nurturing young folk talent locally saying it is necessary to preserve the vitality of the country's rich cultural legacy.

"To ensure that India's cultural legacy survives the onslaught of time, SPICMACAY will have to provide a platform for nurturing young folk talent at the local level besides showcasing the talent of established artists," he said.

The Governor was addressing the third meeting of the state advisory board of SPICMACAY's Uttarakhand chapter at Raj Bhawan here.

Qureshi, who is the chairperson of SPICMACAY's Uttarakhand chapter, asked the institution to create an interest among the youth towards their culture by organising its art and culture-based programmes in remote hill areas.

He also asked SPICMACAY to create a corpus fund to help talented young artists from poor families and prepare an elaborate calendar of its programmes for the entire year.

Principals of different colleges and Vice-Chancellors of universities, who attended the meeting, unanimously proposed that SPICMACAY should extend the ambit of its activities to rural areas to sensitise the youth to culture and arts.
