Uttarakhand floods be declared as national calamity: Lok Dal
Lok Dal today demanded that the floods in the Uttarakhand should be declared as "national disaster" while accusing the Central and state government of being insensitive towards the victims.
Talking to the reporters, Singh said that pilgrims from across the country have lost their lives in Uttarakhand and large number of foreign and domestic tourists were stranded at different places.
"We demanded that it should be declared as national calamity and rescue works should be accelerated. There are around 500 private choppers in the country, the Civil Aviation Ministry should acquire them for the relief work," he said.
Singh said that a number of people from Uttar Pradesh were killed in Uttarakhand and a large number were still stranded, but the state government was showing laxity in relief works.
He said that his party would gherao Vidhan Bhawan on these issues on June 26 and if the attitude of the government does not change then they would launch jail bharo campaign from the second week of August.
