Uttarakhand floods: 230 from Maharashtra still missing

Maharashtra Relief and Rehabilitation Minister Patangrao Kadam today said 230 people from the state, who were in Uttarakhand when the flash floods struck, were still missing.

MUMBAI: Maharashtra Relief and Rehabilitation Minister Patangrao Kadam today said 230 people from the state, who were in Uttarakhand when the flash floods struck, were still missing.

He said that 2,960 people from Maharashtra were in the northern state at the time of tragedy; 726 of them were travelling with tour operators from Mumbai, Nashik, Nagpur and Pune.

"1,103 have returned safely. As many as 372 people have been contacted. They are stranded but are safe and about 1,250 are on way back home. Contact has not been established with 230 people," he said.

Three people are confirmed dead. Figures keep changing as per the daily inputs received from authorities in Uttarakhand, he said.

Of the 230 missing, 56 are from Pune, he said.
