Uttarakhand CM Harish Rawat writes to FM Jaitley regarding demonetisation
NEW DELHI: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat has written a letter to Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley expressing his concern over the problems faced by farmers in the wake of centre’s demonetisation decision. He has requested finance minister Jaitley to make available proper cash money to cooperative banks for giving agricultural loans in the cooperative sector.

Uttarakhand’s other demands include proper cash flow in the state’s currency chest and extension in the period of insurance cover to Rabi crops till February 15, 2016. Rawat, in his letter, informed finance minister Jaitley there is delay in the sowing of “Rabi” crops. He pointed out that commercial banks have given priority to cash management currently and thus, agricultural loans and other activities remain affected.

According to him, although banks have issued 80 per cent debit cards in Uttarakhand, there is problem relating to activation. CM Rawat has underlined the need for issuing new pre-activated cards. There is also decrease in the state’s revenue in different departments like excise, stamps and registration due to demonetisation.
