Uttar Pradesh urges Centre to sanction Rs 2k crore for drought relief

The Chief Secretary made the request to a 10-member central government team led by additional secretary Raghvendra Singh, an official spokesman said.

LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh Chief Secretary Alok Ranjan today requested a Union team visiting here to recommend the Centre to sanction and release Rs 2057.79 crore the state government has demanded to provide relief to the drought-hit farmers.

The Chief Secretary made the request to a 10-member central government team led by additional secretary Raghvendra Singh, an official spokesman said here.

During a meeting with them Ranjan directed the principal secretaries and department heads concerned to provide information sought by the central team within two days.

He informed the central team that 50 districts have been declared drought-affected.
