NEW DELHI: The Uttar Pradesh government on Sunday charged suspended Noida subdivisional magistrate Durga Shakti Nagpal for allegedly ordering the demolition of an illegal mosque wall, Times Now has reported. The state government has sent the copies of the chargesheet and a report on Nagpal's suspension to the Centre.

Her suspension triggered huge public outcry against the UP government, which justified its action and stood defiant against calls to revoke her suspension.

Earlier, the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre had sought a report from the Akhilesh Yadav government on the suspension of a gutsy woman IAS officer, who had cracked down on the illegal sand mining in UP's Noida area. According to sources, department of personnel and training (DoPT) of the ministry of personnel, which is with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, wrote to Samajwadi Party government in UP seeking a report on the suspension of the IAS officer.

* This comes a day after UPA chairperson and Congress president Sonia Gandhi wrote a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to make sure that the young IAS officer is not unfairly treated.
