Uttar Pradesh government betraying farmers: Congress
LUCKNOW: Congress today accused Uttar Pradesh government of betraying farmers who are facing problems arising out of drought like situation and power crisis, and asked it declare the state as draught-affected.

"The state government should take concrete steps for declaring the state as drought hit to provide relief to those affected," Congress spokesman Vijay Saxena said in a statement.

SP had promised free power and water besides payment of cane arrears after coming to power. Despite being at helm of affairs for over 2 years, canals are dry, required power is not being provided and farmers are committing suicide over non-payment of cane dues, he said.

On the law and order situation in the state, Saxena said the state government has failed miserably to provide adequate security to the people.
