LUCKNOW: UP chief minister Akhilesh Yadav has said that the party would honour the recent court verdict banning caste-based rallies. He said the SP had never indulged in caste rallies and the party would keep away from such gathering in the future also. Yadav said some of the party's cells were dissolved as they were not according to the SP constitution. The SP had on Monday disbanded cells like Samajwadi Brahmin Sabha and Samajwadi Baudhik (intellectual) Sabha.

Yadav's statement welcoming the high court ban on caste rallies, comes within days of rival BSP chief Mayawati's announcement that she would continue to hold caste rallies.

After the High Court announced a ban on caste rallies, Mayawati had on Sunday said that her party organised such caste rallies to bring various communities together and not divide them. She said that her party would continue to hold such rallies meant for a broader society which are called Sarva Samaj rallies.

Mayawati said she would effect some small changes in organising such rallies if anybody had objections.
