Uttar Pradesh and Bihar top murder chart

New Delhi: ‘Disputes’ and ‘personal enmity’ were the two principal motives for murders in 2017, according to the latest National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) report. Released after a delay of two years, the report says the number of murder cases in 2017 declined to 28,653 (30,450). Uttar Pradesh (4,324) and Bihar (2,803) among states and Delhi (487) among UTs recorded the maximum numbers of murder cases.

Delhi (1168) reported maximum numbers of rapes among the metropolitan cities in 2017. Disputes’ (7,898 cases) followed by ‘personal vendetta (4,660 cases) and ‘Gain’ (2,103 cases) were the main motives for murders, says NCRB report.
