Uttar Bharatiya Sangh members seek answer from its chief R N Singh for supporting Shiv Sena

MUMBAI: Members of city's non-political organisation Uttar Bharatiya Sangh (UBS) have sought an explanation from its chief R N Singh over matter of issuing a public appeal to North Indians to vote for Shiv Sena in the last assembly elections.

Santosh Singh, son of the Sangh's president R N Singh, had fought on a Shiv Sena ticket against former minister Mohammed Arif Naseem Khan from Chandivali assembly seat in the 2009 polls.

On the matter, which has stoked a controversy in the organisation, its executive president Sharda Prasad Singh and other members have written to Singh seeking an explanation on why he used a non-political organisation to pitch for a particular party.

The objection raised by the sangh was that members of in the outfit were affiliated to various political parties.

Sharda Prasad Singh and Jhunjhunwala College trustee Rajendra Singh said Singh had used the sangh to support his son's political career.

Former Minister Chandrakant Tripathi asked Singh to disclose in which meeting was it decided that a public appeal to support a political party would be issued.

More than 20 members are signatories to the letter of protest sent to Singh. A meeting has been convened tomorrow to discuss the issue.

A case related to the affairs of the Uttar Bharatiya Sangh is pending in Bombay High Court. According to the members, the plot for the sangh building was given by the government at concessional rates which was to be used for welfare programmes of the community.

However, the building is being used for commercial gains by Singh and his family.
