Utilise Rs 50,000 grant to set up RTI cell: Government to departments
NEW DELHI: To facilitate easy processing of RTI applications, the government today asked all departments to utilise one-time grant of Rs 50,000 for setting up an exclusive cell.

The government had three years ago started a scheme 'Improving Transparency and Accountability in Government through effective Implementation of RTI', under which one-time grant of up to Rs 50,000 is being provided.

The purpose of the financial assistance is for development of necessary infrastructure and purchase of equipment like computers for speedy disposal of pleas under the Right to Information Act.

"It is reiterated that ministries, departments, attached offices and subordinate offices desirous of availing the facility of financial assistance mentioned above, may send the proposals," the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) said in an order issued today.

The Right to Information Act 2005 mandates timely response to citizens' requests for government information.
