NEW DELHI: The US will continue to strengthen its ties with India in Obama administration's second term, America's top envoy here Nancy J Powell said today.

"As we set our new agendas and goals in this new beginning, I want to assure you all that the deepening and strengthening of relations with India is an important aspect of it," Ambassador Powell said here.

"We will continue working with India," she said. Obama will be sworn in twice for his second term by Chief Justice John Roberts -- first today and for a second time tomorrow.

Powell today visited famous Sufi shrine Hazrat Nizamuddin and offered prayers.

"I know the auspiciousness of praying here. Tonight we have come here to celebrate our common tradition of democracy," Powell said.

The US ambassador said this was not her first visit to the shrine. "I am really happy to have come here again," she said.
